Nestled in the foothills of northern Pickens County, Dacusville is a historic rural community located between Easley, Pumpkintown, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Known for its agricultural heritage, scenic countryside, family-owned businesses, and strong community spirit, Dacusville remains one of the Upstate’s most distinctive communities.

Long before modern highways connected the region, travelers passed through this area on routes that followed ancient Cherokee trading paths. By the early 1800s, the community had become an important stop for merchants, settlers, and travelers heading toward the mountains. Today, Dacusville continues to serve as a gateway to some of South Carolina’s most beautiful outdoor destinations.

How Dacusville Got Its Name

The community was named for Archibald Nathaniel Dacus, an early settler who operated a store near the crossing of former Cherokee trails. The area became known as Dacusville during the 1820s, and a post office was established in 1828. Interestingly, Dacusville was also known for many years as “The Trap,” a name that appeared throughout the nineteenth century.

A Community Built on Agriculture

Agriculture has long been at the heart of Dacusville. Farms, grist mills, cotton gins, and local stores helped shape the community throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. That agricultural tradition remains alive today through the annual Dacusville Farm Show, one of the area’s most popular community events.
