Our story • Upstate South Carolina

There’s more to this place than meets the eye.

From the crossroads of Pumpkintown to the trails of Table Rock and the backroads beyond, we’re sharing the places, stories, and discoveries that make this corner of South Carolina worth exploring.

How it started

A local curiosity became a bigger project.

I grew up in Upstate South Carolina, but moving closer to Pumpkintown made me realize how much of this region I had never really explored. Familiar roads led to unfamiliar places. A trail could lead to a waterfall, an old foundation, or a view that made me wonder why I hadn’t found it sooner.

Then came the questions. Where does that road go? What’s the history behind that building? Which trails are actually worth the drive? Where can a family spend an afternoon? What stories have been lost along the way?

The answers were scattered across park websites, local history books, old newspaper archives, maps, and conversations. I wanted one useful place to bring them together. That idea grew into PumpkintownSC.com.

Our approach

More than a list of places

A good local guide should do more than tell you where something is. It should help you know what to expect, why a place matters, and what else you might discover nearby.

Some articles grow out of time spent exploring trails and communities. Others begin with a historic photograph, an old map, or a question that requires digging through records. We try to distinguish documented history from local legend, share useful sources when available, and update visitor information as it changes.

Our home region

Rooted in the foothills

Our coverage includes Pumpkintown, Table Rock, Pickens, Dacusville, Cleveland, Caesars Head, Travelers Rest, Lake Jocassee, Sassafras Mountain, Oconee County, and surrounding mountain communities.

Whether you’re a lifelong local, a new neighbor, or visiting for the weekend, the goal is the same: help you see this region with fresh eyes.
