The City of Pickens kicked off Independence Day weekend in spectacular fashion on Friday, July 3, hosting the Pickens Independence Day Celebration – America 250. The once-in-a-generation event commemorated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, bringing thousands of residents and visitors downtown for an afternoon and evening filled with history, entertainment, and patriotic celebration.

Festivities began at noon around the Pickens Amphitheater and downtown, where families enjoyed a Kids Zone, a variety of food trucks, and vendors serving everything from barbecue to frozen treats. Throughout the afternoon, Revolutionary War-era living-history demonstrators gave visitors a glimpse into life during America’s founding, complete with period clothing, historical displays, and interactive activities.

A patriotic presentation honored the nation’s history and the sacrifices of those who have served the United States before the celebration transitioned into an evening of live entertainment.

Music kept the crowd entertained throughout the day with performances by Torn, Song Band, and The Grateful Brothers, each bringing a different style to the stage and keeping the atmosphere lively until sunset.

As darkness settled over Pickens County, attention turned toward the night’s grand finale. Shortly after 9:30 p.m., fireworks were launched from Bruce Field, filling the sky with brilliant red, white, blue, and gold explosions visible throughout downtown.

While the Pickens Amphitheater served as the official viewing location, many experienced attendees know that Pickens Middle School offers one of the best places to watch the fireworks. The school provides an excellent view of the display while allowing visitors to avoid much of the heavy traffic leaving downtown after the show.

The combination of live music, local food, historical demonstrations, and an impressive fireworks display made the America 250 celebration one of the largest Independence Day events held in Pickens in recent years. As the nation begins commemorating its 250th birthday, the community’s celebration served as both a tribute to America’s history and a reminder of the hometown traditions that continue to bring people together.

💡 Best Fireworks Viewing: If you plan to attend next year, consider parking near Pickens Middle School. It offers an outstanding view of the fireworks launched from Bruce Field and provides a much easier exit after the show compared to the downtown crowd.
