A ROADSIDE MEAL • MARIETTA, SOUTH CAROLINA

Our trip to F-Mart brought us to a small roadside store with a big red sign, rocking chairs out front, and hot dogs on the table. Here is a look at the food, the setting, and how to work a stop into a day around the foothills.

Our stop at F-Mart

The red-and-cream F-Mart sign stretches across the front of the building, with a separate hot-dog sign making the lunch suggestion clear before you step inside. Stone facing, wooden porch posts, and a row of seats give the storefront its character. In our photos, the sky is bright blue, and the surrounding trees are beginning to show autumn color—a fitting backdrop for a roadside meal in the foothills.

F-Mart is at 4268 Geer Highway, Marietta, South Carolina. The address appears on the business’s Facebook page and in South Carolina’s public records. For readers exploring from Pumpkintown, it is another food stop to consider when planning a drive through the Marietta and Cleveland area.

Hot dogs, chili, and a plate of fries

Our meal included two different takes on the hot dog. One came covered with a generous layer of chili, while another was topped with ketchup, yellow mustard, and chopped onions. Served in paper trays, they made a colorful pair of lunch photos: one almost hidden beneath its topping, the other showing the familiar red, yellow, and white combination against the bun.

Chicken fingers and crinkle-cut fries were also on our table, served together on a paper plate. The golden breading and ridged fries brought another familiar grill order into the mix. Between those plates and the hot dogs, our visit offers a useful look at a few of the straightforward choices available when we stopped.

A small store with an old-school feel

Inside, wood-paneled walls and blue-framed letter boards set the scene. Tables offer a place to sit, while a candy rack and an ice cream freezer keep the store side of F-Mart in view. A Royal Crown Cola sign and a South Carolina palmetto-and-crescent decoration add details that are easy to miss if you only photograph the food.

That mix of dining room and snack shelves is part of the setting’s appeal. You can see the menu, the candy, and the freezer within the same small room, with daylight coming through the front window. The photographs tell that story better than calling it a hidden gem: this compact roadside place has its own recognizable look.

What else is on the menu?

The menu we photographed reaches beyond hot dogs. It lists hamburgers and cheeseburgers, a patty melt, a club sandwich, a BLT, a bologna sandwich, grilled cheese, and chicken-finger options. Fries and chili cheese fries appear alongside salads, giving a group a few different directions to take an order.

Breakfast has its own section, with biscuits, egg breakfasts, grits, gravy, and a pancake listed on the board. The posted instruction is to order at the counter. Our menu photograph records what was displayed during the visit; check the board when you arrive for the day’s choices and prices.
