A black bear was spotted this evening on New Hope Road near Dorothy Lane in the Pumpkintown area.

The bear was observed near a driveway just off the road and appeared to be moving through the area peacefully.

If you’re in the area:

• Keep a safe distance and never approach a bear.
• Bring pet food and bird feeders indoors if possible.
• Keep garbage secured.
• Watch pets and small children when outdoors, especially during the early morning and evening hours.

Black bear sightings are becoming more common across Pickens County as bear populations continue to expand throughout the South Carolina foothills and mountains.
