For two adults and two children ages 6–15, six paid visits to Table Rock, Jones Gap, or Paris Mountain cost $114 at current admission rates. The $99 All Park Passport covers those admissions for the people arriving in the pass holder’s vehicle. That makes the answer a practical yes for a family making those trips—but the calculation changes for solo hikers, preschool families, and people whose favorite parks are already free.

Prices and policies below were checked October 18, 2026. The examples compare ordinary day admission with the listed passport price; they exclude fuel, rentals, reservations, and other trip expenses.

What the $99 passport actually covers

The official All Park Passport provides unlimited entry to South Carolina state parks for everyone in the pass holder’s vehicle. The hangtag can move between vehicles. Passenger vehicles seating 16 or more are ineligible. Think of it as admission for the vehicle you arrive in, rather than a membership covering several cars traveling together.

The official park store gives the precise expiration rule: passports are punched for the purchase month and expire at the end of that month the following year. A passport bought in October 2026 therefore expires October 31, 2027. You must present the physical pass for entry; an online purchase does not remove the need to bring the hangtag.

The published added benefits are admission to Hunting Island’s lighthouse and Huntington Beach’s Atalaya, up to four people per visit, subject to availability and change. These are useful extras if your plans include the coast, but the local savings examples below don’t rely on either attraction being open.

Start with the admission you would otherwise pay

The official area-information pages for Table Rock, Jones Gap, and Paris Mountain currently list the same day-use rates. Devils Fork charges more on paid-admission days and currently offers free admission each Tuesday.

ParkAdultSC senior, 65+Child, 6–15
Table Rock$6$3.75$3.50
Jones Gap$6$3.75$3.50
Paris Mountain$6$3.75$3.50
Devils Fork, paid-admission days$8$5$4

Children five and younger enter these parks free. At Paris Mountain, ordinary admission also includes access to its designated swimming area when open. At Devils Fork, a Tuesday visit yields no passport savings because admission is already free. Match the comparison to the days you actually expect to go.

How many visits make the passport cheaper?

The table below uses a $99 passport and the $6 adult/$3.50 child rates shared by Table Rock, Jones Gap, and Paris Mountain. “Visits” means paid-admission outings with the same group arriving together in one eligible vehicle. Children in the paid-child examples are ages 6–15; adults in these examples pay the full adult rate.

Your groupAdmission per visitFirst visit count above $99Admission total at that point
One adult$617$102
Two adults$129$108
One adult + two children, 6–15$138$104
Two adults + one child, 6–15$15.507$108.50
Two adults + two children, 6–15$196$114
Two adults + children five or younger$129$108

For the two-adult, two-child family, five visits cost $95, so daily admission is still $4 cheaper. On the sixth visit, the admission total reaches $114, and the passport is $15 ahead. After ten such visits, the avoided admission totals $190, or $91 more than the passport price. Those are admission savings, not a promise that every outing becomes free.

Devils Fork reaches the same threshold faster for that family on paid days: two $8 adults and two $4 children total $24 per visit. Four visits cost $96; five cost $120. The passport is $21 ahead after the fifth paid visit. A family visiting only on free Tuesdays has a completely different calculation.

A realistic six-outing year from the foothills

You do not have to visit six different parks to reach the family threshold. Three visits to Table Rock, two to Paris Mountain, and one to Jones Gap total six admissions. At the two-adult, two-child rate above, that is $114 without the passport. This is an illustrative itinerary, not a claim about how often local families visit.

Give those days different purposes. Compare a creek walk and a more demanding hike with our Table Rock trail guide. Use the Paris Mountain guide to plan an outing on the Greenville side. For Jones Gap, read the Jones Gap Falls trail guide and select a route that suits your group. Paying for admission doesn’t make the trails any easier.

A lake day can replace one of those outings rather than being added just to justify the purchase. Our family guide to Devils Fork goes beyond the boat launch. The best value comes from visits you’d make anyway; spending more on fuel or activities to “use the pass” can outweigh a small admission saving.

Check for the $49.50 discounted passport

The state offers the All Park Passport at half price to eligible South Carolina seniors age 65 and older, legally blind and 100-percent-disabled South Carolina residents, and active South Carolina National Guard members. Half of $99 is $49.50. Bring proof of eligibility; the qualifying person must be present when the discounted pass is used. You can’t buy discounted passports online at the reduced price.

Compare that price with the admission rate you actually qualify for. One SC senior paying Table Rock’s $3.75 rate spends $48.75 over 13 visits and $52.50 over 14. Two SC seniors traveling together pay $7.50 per visit, reaching $52.50 after seven visits. In these examples, a discounted passport is therefore cheaper at 14 solo visits or seven two-senior visits.

The state parks FAQ also describes separate reductions for eligible residents on certain services. Don’t confuse those eligibility-based reductions with a discount automatically attached to every $99 passport. Confirm eligibility and proof requirements before buying.

When daily admission or a borrowed pass is better

A passport is harder to justify if most of your outings don’t charge an entry fee. Keowee-Toxaway State Park currently has free admission. You can enjoy its Natural Bridge Trail without buying an annual passport. Free admission days and library-pass outings also shouldn’t count as admissions the passport would save.

The Pickens County Library System’s Adventure Pass program includes South Carolina State Parks passes admitting everyone in a vehicle. Eligible borrowers are Pickens County residents age 18 or older with accounts in good standing. The state-park pass can be borrowed for a week, without renewal. Availability is limited, so contact your branch before planning around one.

That is an excellent option for an occasional outing or for trying a park before committing to annual admission. Our library card adventure guide explains the program in more detail. Owning a passport adds the convenience of having it ready for repeated trips; borrowing can eliminate the purchase cost when a pass is available.

The state also lists a $65 seven-day passport, purchased at parks rather than online. At $19 per family visit, three paid visits cost $57, and four cost $76, so four such outings within its validity period exceed its price. The annual passport costs $34 more. For a local household expecting later trips, compare the full year rather than automatically choosing the shorter pass.

A passport does not reserve your parking space

Admission and capacity are separate. Jones Gap’s current advisory says parking reservations are required for guaranteed entry on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; outside that arrangement, spaces are first come, first served. Passport holders still need to follow that process.

Devils Fork warns of busy-day entrance lines and limited parking capacity. It offers a limited number of reservable single-vehicle and boat-trailer spaces. Those reservations are separate products with their own terms, including admission for up to two people. If admission is already included in something you buy, don’t count it again as a passport saving.

Plan the rest of the budget separately, too. A day-entry passport doesn’t make camping, cabins, equipment rentals, or separately charged activities free. The state’s Myrtle Beach FAQ, for example, specifically excludes pier fishing from passport coverage. Price the actual activity rather than assuming everything inside the gate is included.

Buy it for the year you are likely to have

The standard passport is a strong fit for a family expecting six or more paid outings at the $19 example rate, or five paid family outings at Devils Fork’s $24 rate. Couples, solo visitors, and families with preschoolers need more visits to reach the same point. Eligible discounted buyers should run the comparison using both their reduced passport price and their reduced daily admission.

Buy through the official park store or a state park office, and bring the physical hangtag on each trip. If you already have a handful of hikes and lake days on the calendar, the math is easy. If your plans are still occasional, use daily admission or an available library pass, and base your decision on your expected visits.
