Visitors attending some athletic events in the School District of Pickens County will notice new security measures this year.
The district is introducing Evolv weapons detection screening at select athletic events along with a clear bag policy for guests.
Here’s what families and visitors need to know before heading to a game.
New Weapons Detection Screening
At select athletic events, guests will walk through an Evolv weapons detection system before entering.
Unlike a traditional metal detector checkpoint, guests can normally walk through the system without removing everyday items from their pockets.
According to the district’s guidance, you can leave your keys, wallet, and cell phone in your pockets while walking through.
If the system triggers an alarm, staff will conduct a secondary screening.
Weapons and other prohibited items are not allowed. Violations may result in removal from the event and possible law enforcement involvement.
What Bags Can You Bring?
The new policy limits the types and sizes of bags allowed into affected events.
Approved bags include:
- Clear totes no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″
- One-gallon resealable clear plastic storage bags
- Small clutch bags or purses no larger than 6.5″ x 4.5″
- Diaper or medical bags, although additional inspection may be required
- Seat cushions, including cushions with a back
What Bags Are Not Allowed?
Several common types of bags will no longer be permitted under the policy.
These include backpacks, camera bags, large purses, oversized totes, grocery bags and mesh bags.
Fanny packs, belt bags, and bags larger than the approved sizes are also prohibited.
If you’re unsure about a bag, the easiest option is to leave it at home or use an approved clear bag.
Don’t Throw Away Your Clear Stadium Bag
If you already have a clear bag from attending Clemson, college football games, or other venues with similar policies, check its size before buying another one.
A clear tote measuring 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or smaller meets the size shown in the district’s policy.
A one-gallon clear resealable storage bag is also an inexpensive option.
Does This Apply to Every School Event?
Not necessarily.
The district’s announcement specifically states that Evolv weapons detection screening will be used at select athletic events.
Because procedures can vary by event, it’s a good idea to check information from your school or the School District of Pickens County before attending.
